Software Development - Industrial Automation
Human Machine Interface for Plastics Machinery
Design and development of a Windows based HMI for Cincinnati Milacron's plastic extrusion and blow molding machines. HMI was configurable to provide support of various models and configurations with the same application. Development using C#.
Canon Warehouse Management
Designed and developed a Windows NT based warehouse management system using C++ with an Oracle database. The system incorporates both RF and serial bar code scanners. All rules concerning inventory and manufacturing practices, validation, equipment configuration and connection to other systems were configurable to provide a totally customizable system. A module was provided for the automatic operation of material handling equipment such as conveyors, storage carousels and inserter/extractors. This system was developed for Canon Business Machines in Tijuana, Mexico.
UPS Warehouse Management
Retrofit, debugging and database analysis of a UNIX / NFS / Ingress based warehouse management system at a UPS depot in Reno, NV. The system was developed by the original vendor using C and 4GL but was never stable enough to be brought on line. We redesigned and retrofitted key parts of the system and brought it on line.
GM Assembly Machine
Provided electrical and software engineering for a series of shock absorber assembly machines deployed at GM Delco.
Cosmetics WIP and Batching
Designed and developed a work in process system using Visual C++, Visual BASIC and Oracle for a leading food and drug manufacturer. We performed significant data inport and conversin from legacy systems and also maintained the system and provided two generations of enhancements. This system provides for batch ingredient breakdown and manufacturing as well as inventory control. Also six year historic reporting and “second operator” verification raw material of weights and additions were provided to meet FDA requirements. This system was deployed a fortune 100 food and drug manufacturer.
Storage System Cell Controller
Designed and developed a programmable, UNIX-based cell controller using the C language for automated material handling systems to coordinate equipment such as carousels, conveyor and inserter/extractors. The cell controller supported parallel conveyor paths and best path analysis diverting containers around bottle necks or disabled equipment in real time. All rules concerning material handling equipment, routes and capacities were modeled in data tables allowing for equipment reconfiguration without modifications to source code. This cell controller was eventually used to control three different configurations at Raytheon, Canon and United Technologies without requiring modification to source code.
RF Data Collection
Designed an RF based data collection for deployment in a combustible environment. The system was used to measure ingredient additions and monitored scale and valve readings as well as scanning bar codes and providing a user interface inside the environment.
GA Gray Turning Center
Machine control programming and vertical lathe machine tools including tool changer.
